About APICC

The Alaska Process Industry Careers Consortium was established to create, connect and enhance the quality of training & educational programs to help prepare Alaskans for good jobs. The process Industry consists of a collection of industries such as oil and gas production, transportation and refining, mining, and power generation.

The Consortium’s industry, education, community and governmental partners have defined a common purpose:

To define workforce needs from an employer perspective, to create statewide skill standards for jobs, to develop standardized curricula that meet industry needs, and to promote careers in the industry for Alaskans.

Beginning with a workshop in August 1999, nearly 100 participants heard from a number of industry and educational experts and reached the following conclusions:

  • Not enough Alaskans are being adequately prepared for a growing number of technical jobs that are becoming available in the process industry.

  • Education and training programs must be responsive to industry requirements.

  • Industry must fully participate in the process, defining shared needs, committing to jobs, internships and other support.
