APICC’s Alaska Process and Energy Industries Mobile Briefcase

Process and Energy Career Exploration for Alaskans

The first steps of a career pathway in Alaska’s process and energy industries start with learning experiences delivered around hands-on activities designed to simulate industry workplace occupation skills.

APICC’s mobile briefcase initiative (a short-term academy approach) is designed around introductory, engaging, hands-on occupational/career lessons (activities & modules) in the process and energy industries. Briefcase activities are designed around occupational skills using simulations from oil, gas, mining, power generation, and water quality management. These career exploration activities are based on industry occupational needs and found in APICC’s Priority Occupations Report.

Each industry activity (module) is being designed as a hands-on activity (active demonstration & interactive apparatus) and connected to cognitive learning experiences that illustrate high priority industry careers, and Alaska education and training opportunities available to pursue those careers.

APICC is facilitating the development of this initiative with the help of industry partners and education representatives through the Career Readiness, and Education and Training Committees. The suitcases (units) are being designed and built to be transportable (mobile) to secondary schools and rural training centers across Alaska. Learning modules in the briefcase will be flexible in duration, allowing custom scheduling depending on the needs and time constraints of participating educational entities.

Participants will be provided with a “How to Pursue a Career in Alaska’s Process and Energy Industries” package that will allow them to apply for education and training required. Educators at participating schools and learning centers will be provided with detailed information and resources to assist participants with a step-by-step plan to pursue their career interests.
